Dear Editor: At Saturday’s Winter Blues Monthly Grind, audience members were asked to contribute haiku poetry.
Haiku is a form of poetry, originating in Japan, that generally is in three lines, 17 syllables and follows a 5, 7, 5 pattern. (There are other elements but the general challenge of the Grind was to contribute a haiku that followed the 5, 7, 5 structure.)
Some of the contributions follow. Happy holidays!
We love the players
Music so sad but winter
Blues in the white snow
Oh, I love the snow
Why does it have to be so cold
Oh, I hate the cold
Blues are very cool
I learned about them in school
I think the blues rule
Melancholy blues
Music to make us peaceful
Calm and reflection
Dark December days
Can bring on a gloomy funk
Hope the music helps.
The sky was so blue
Hummingbirds at my feeder
Yesterday’s beauty
The blues – good or bad
Sing them, play them, love em’ or
Not that’s what it’s about
It is cold outside
But I am not at all blue
I am here with you.
Snow blowing from trees
Sparkles as it drifts to land
Beautiful and serene
Winter blues you say
I haven’t seen a blue sky
in days, only gray
We love to Haiku
Because it gets rid of blues
In mid winter time
Blue Christmas for some
But then the blue sky and sun
Turns those blues to fun
Snow, snow, drifting
Winter walking, fun delight
Such a treat, warm feet
You gotta get burned
To truly understand them
Then they can be real
Sky danced, ocean spray
Prose lighting across the swells
Mountain dusk moments
Snowy Sitka cures
The winter blues because
It is beautiful
Honky talk or Jazz
The blues get deep in your bones
Rumpling up and through
Angel in the sky
So ethereal you will fly
The light blinds
My mom plays the blues
It rules and rocks everything
Blues is amazing
