The Mt. Edgecumbe High School Lady Braves volleyball team defeated Nome three sets to zero on Friday morning to stay in the hunt for a state championship game bid.
The Lady Braves had opened tournament play on Thursday with a 3-0 set loss to Grace Christian and were facing Nome in an elimination game.

The Lady Braves played at 1:30 p.m. against Valdez in another elimination game but scores were not available by press time. Valdez was the pre-tournament favorite and opened play on Thursday with a 3-1 set win over Homer, but lost to Nikiski 3-1 later in the day.
The winner of Mt. Edgecumbe/Valdez plays again tonight at 7 p.m. against the winner of the elimination match between Monroe and the Homer/Barrow loser-out match. Monroe had opened tourney play with a 3-1 set win over Nome, then lost to Grace 3-0. Barrow opened tourney play with a 3-0 loss to Nikiski.
The last elimination game is Saturday at 10 a.m. with the winner advancing to play in the championship at 2 p.m. against the winner of today’s 5:15 p.m. semifinal between Grace Christian and Nikiski.
