No Kings 3

Posted

Dear Editor: We are showing up together again on March 28 for No Kings 3! In addition to declaring war on fundamental civil and human rights and the U.S. Constitution, the Trump administration has now decided to instigate a sprawling assortment of undeclared, unconstitutional, and immoral wars abroad.

Clearly, Trump thinks his rule is absolute. But America does not belong to kings, dictators, or tyrants. It belongs to We the People — the people who care, who show up, and who fight for dignity, accountability, a life we can afford, and real opportunity for all.

Join us for a family-friendly, joyful, and non-violent but powerful display of civic engagement and grassroots resistance at Sheet’ká No Kings 3, Saturday, March 28, noon to 2 p.m.

Sponsored by Sitkans for Peace and Democracy, Sheet’ká No Kings is part of the third No Kings National Day of Action. Sitka will join thousands of protests and millions of people across the country to support dignity, democracy, and the power of people showing up!

Sheet’ká No Kings will begin at noon with three marches, converging at Totem Square for speakers, music, voter registration and information tables, cookies, and community. March from the starting location of your choice: 1) Boathouse on Japonski, 2) Centennial Hall, or 3) the Roundabout. Lineup is at 11:45. Or meet the marchers at Totem Square at 12:30 p.m.

Bring family members, friends, and a sign to celebrate a basic truth: There are no Kings in America. The power belongs to the people!

History shows that people-powered movements are how we end authoritarianism and build a better democracy. Whether or not you have ever participated in a protest, at time when our neighbors and our democracy are under attack, silence is not an option.

Let’s make this the largest protest in the history of Sitka!
