No Kings: Vote Early

Posted

Dear Editor: As Trump and his syndicate of billionaires become increasingly cruel, corrupt, reckless, and oblivious to the needs and struggles of working Americans, voting remains our greatest superpower. And the midterms are the time to show how powerful we are!

For over a year, millions of people have come together to send a clear message: In America, We Have No Kings. Power does not belong to billionaires, strongmen, or politicians who believe they are above accountability.

No Kings 4: Vote Early national day of action on Saturday, October 17, is the next step in reclaiming our power.  It's a day of nonpartisan voter participation, being in community with each other, and making sure every eligible voter has a plan, knows their options, and is ready to make their voice count.

Sitkans will gather at the Crescent Harbor shelter at 11:30 a.m., and march to the roundabout for a noon rally to support voting rights, early voting, and election protection. Sponsored by Sitkans for Peace and Democracy and Indivisible Sitka, organizers will provide signs – or bring your own to express your commitment to the right and responsibility to vote in American democracy.

Stop by the shelter at 10:30 a.m., before the march, to learn about early voting in Alaska – why voting early is important, and where and how you can vote early. We will have cookies, stickers, information, and conversation.

This free public event is nonpartisan and committed to nonviolence.

Whatever your motivation – weariness at struggling to make ends meet while Trump and his billionaire friends rake in more money and power; disgust at plans to live-stream firing squad executions; moral indignation at sending unaccompanied toddlers to detention centers; frustration that American tax dollars pay to bomb Palestinian children, but not to make health care affordable for American families; or worries about the future of our children and grandchildren as these would-be dictators push humanity closer to extinction – voting may be the most important thing you do this year. Please join family, friends, neighbors, and community members this Saturday for No Kings: Vote Early!

Remember, bad politicians are elected because good people don’t vote!
