November 1, 2021, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

October 29

At 12:33 a.m. fireworks were reported heard in the 2700 block of HPR.

A nurse asked for a welfare check on the children of a patient. Officers found the kids were able to care for themselves.

At 6:38 a.m. a Nancy Court resident reported a bear had killed chickens and torn up the coop.

At 10:26 a.m. a caller in the 2800 block of HPR reported hearing loud bangs and finding empty shell casings on the property. Police are investigating.

At 4:46 p.m. a man reported a hit and run on Back Beach earlier in the day.

At 6:21 p.m. a caller reported hearing six or so shots in the 4200 block of HPR. Police could not locate a source.

October 30

At 4:54 a.m. two women were reported screaming at each other in the 3000 block of HPR. Police separated the two for the night.

At 10:14 a.m. a caller reported a white dog in the 1800 block of HPR barks constantly. The animal control officer was notified.

At 11:51 a.m. a baby seal was reported trapped at Eliason Harbor. A wildlife officer found it was an injured mink.

At 3 p.m. a dead cat was reported in the roadway in the 1800 block of SMC. The animal control officer was notified.

At 3:05 p.m. a caller reported a hit and run in the 400 block of Monastery.

At 3:08 p.m. a dog was reported running at large in the 2600 block of SMC.

At 3:53 p.m. a park ranger cited persons entering a barricaded area at Totem Park.

At 4:24 p.m. an officer helped an elderly woman cross Lake Street in the 400 block.

At 5:37 p.m. a husky was reported running at large at Katlian and HPR. People had tried unsuccessfully to catch it, and the animal control officer was notified.

At 8:07 p.m. a woman reported what sounded like gunshots at Lincoln and Lake streets. Officers couldn’t find a source.

At 10:07 p.m. a caller said he’d returned home to find his neighbor’s door was open. Officers got permission from the home’s owner to close the door.

At 11:17 p.m. a caller reported a bear on DeArmond Street, near the playground. It was gone when officers arrived.

 

October 31

At 1:17 a.m. a caller reported a driver hit a parked vehicle in the 600 block of SMC, then hit a home on Park Street. The driver went into the home and later left on foot, the caller said. Officers tried unsuccessfully to contact the man.

At 6:13 a.m. a bear was reported on Bahrt Circle. A resident said a bear keeps returning to her chicken coop.

At 9:50 a.m. a tsunami siren pole at Shotgun Alley and SMC was reported to have been struck by a vehicle.

At 10:45 a.m. a caller said a neighbor’s trash was being spread on Rudolph Walton Circle.

At 6:56 p.m. a caller reported a family fight at Eliason Harbor. Officers separated a couple for the night.

 

 

Sitka Police

Brian Nunes, 33, was charged Friday with driving under the influence.

Justin Osbakken, 30, was charged Saturday with driving with a revoked license and violating conditions of release.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Friday and one fire call, that was canceled as the fire truck was en route. On Saturday, four ambulance calls were logged, and on Sunday, seven were received.

Also Sunday, smoke was reported in the 4400 block of HPR which turned out to be from a controlled burn that hadn’t been reported at the fire department; and a call at 3:02 p.m. from Odess Theater where a fog machine being used in a play had caused alarm but no fire.
