Police Blotter
Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
November 9
At 7:38 a.m. a welfare check was requested on a person in the 1700 block of HPR.
At 7:40 a.m. citizen contact was made in the 1100 block of HPR.
At 8:38 a.m. a man was found sleeping in the women’s restroom at Crescent Harbor. He was told to leave the area.
At 9 a.m. a caller reported a water line apparently had broken at 409 Baranof Street. Public Works was notified.
A found property call came in at 9:19 a.m. from the SJ Campus.
A bicycle was reported stolen from near Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center at 10:45 a.m. It might just have been misplaced, however, and police were to be called if it was found.
At 12:13 p.m. a caller said a power line had fallen across the road at the ferry terminal. Police informed the Electric Department.
A person talked to police at the station about a harassment incident.
A parking problem was reported at Lake and Lincoln Street at 2:35 p.m.
At 3:50 p.m. a hotel reported a man had been in the restroom for two hours. He was sent on his way.
Trash was reported in the road in the 400 block of Lake Street. It was gone when officers arrived.
At 4:04 p.m. callers reported a possible fire at 201 Katlian. It turned out to be smoke from an overused wall heater, not a fire.
An animal call came in from the 2800 block of HPR at 5:04 p.m.
November 10
At 6:57 a.m. people were reported sleeping in both the men’s and women’s restrooms at Crescent Harbor. Officers talked to them and they agreed to leave.
At 7 a.m. a man was reported sleeping in a vehicle at Eliason Harbor. He was awakened and sent on his way.
At 7:31 a.m. a man was reported sleeping in a hotel lobby. He was awakened and sent on his way.
Sitka Police
Terrance Joe Damien Roth, 22, was charged with violating conditions of release on a charge of theft in the second degree.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received two ambulance calls Wednesday.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter crew diverted from a training mission Wednesday to check on a distress beacon in the Wrangell area, at 10:26 p.m. When they arrived they found the signal came from a vessel in a storage lot and no help was needed.
On a call today, a helicopter went to Hoonah to pick up a 68-year-old man who had injured his leg. The call came in Wednesday night, and the helicopter crew launched at first light today to fly the patient from Hoonah to Sitka.
