Veterans Day Dinner

Dear Editor: Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Elks Lodge and Emblem Club of Sitka for the great dinner they had for Veterans Day. Great meal!

And thank you to the Sitka Wolves basketball team for serving the veterans and their families.

Water Fluoridation

Dear Editor: Like it or not, informed or not, Sitkans are part of a medical experiment in exposure to sodium fluoride added to your drinking water. Sitka’s water fluoridation scheme was turned off Aug. 11 due to the dam construction and restarted Monday, Nov. 10.

I am a survivor of 60 years (18 years in Sitka) in this fluoridation experiment dating back to the 1950s, having suffered first from dental fluorosis from childhood, and a variety of other serious medical consequences that have been associated with excessive fluoride exposure, including osteoarthritis and hip joint replacement with the removed femur head measuring 1,500 ppm fluoride. At 18 months fluoride-free, I notice several health improvements.

Perhaps you also have been noticing recent improvements in your or your pets’ health off fluoridated water. Perhaps symptoms will return now that water fluoridation has resumed in Sitka. Maybe you would rather not be forced to consume sodium fluoride in your water.

Whether or not the Sitka Assembly allows you to continue to experiment fluoride free is up to you. Join the Facebook group, Fluoride Free Alaska, and get informed on how to estimate your total fluoride exposure from all sources and be informed of the detrimental side effects of cumulative fluoride exposure. Rest assured your government will not do this for you. Follow also on Facebook, Clean Water Sitka.

It is time for the Sitka Assembly to appoint a task force to study and reevaluate water fluoridation as has been done in recent years in Juneau and Fairbanks. See http://www.fluoridefreefairbanks.org/

Sitka, it is time to join, the over 115 Alaska communities that have rejected water fluoridation: Palmer, 8,400, Oct. 25, 2011; Fairbanks, 32,000, June 6, 2011 (non-nursing infant over-exposure to fluoride); Juneau, 32,000, Oct. 2007 (pipe corrosion); Craig, 1,200, May 15, 2007; Kodiak, 6,000, July 12, 1996; Hooper Bay, May 29,1992 (over-exposure with one death and 260 sickened); Ketchikan, 8,000, Oct. 2, 1991; Seward; Whittier; Alyeska; Nilnilchik; Soldotna; Homer; Cordova; Valdez; Haines; Glennallen; Wasilla; and many others.
