Card of Thanks
Dear Editor: There are not enough words to express how thankful we are for how this community has taken care of our family as we grapple with the heartbreaking loss of Tad Fujioka. We are so grateful for the extraordinary efforts of everyone from Sitka Search and Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Alaska State Troopers, who devoted every possible effort to find Tad and then bring him home in exceedingly difficult circumstances. The mountain he loved to hunt was a rugged climb on a good day, and it was so much harder for you with the task you faced. I will never forget your selfless service and compassionate professionalism.
People from throughout our community have shared their love and time to help us with meals, driving, logistics, and sharing their memories of Tad. You have lifted us up when we needed your help the most, and we are so thankful for all of you. Tad lived a life of love and generosity that touched many people, and we are so blessed to feel that reflected back a thousand-fold from our community.
For the hundreds of people who donated to the Tad Fujioka Memorial Scholarship Fund, please know our family is honored and humbled by your very generous remembrances of Tad. We look forward to continuing his legacy by encouraging learners, and we will firm up details in the months to come.
If I have forgotten anyone, please forgive me; it was my not intent, and I am grateful for all of your love.
A full obituary will follow later. A memorial service for Tad is planned for 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, at St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, with reception to follow at Harrigan Centennial Hall. More details will be provided closer to the date.
With gratitude,
Sara Beaber-Fujioka
and the Fujioka family
