Project Homeless

Dear Editor: Sitka Outreach and Support: Lifeline Group would like to thank the many people who supported the 2020 Fall Project Homeless Connect.

This is the first time we have held the event outside, and we so appreciate the City and Borough of Sitka for working with us so that our event would be safe for all who attended. A big thank you to all those who donated warm clothing, socks, jackets, hats and gloves, sleeping bags and so many other things and to several people who donated funds so that specific items could be purchased. I would like to give a special thank you to a 9-year-old boy who with the help of family and friends donated three bags of warm clothing! We are so grateful to the 26 volunteers who helped make the event possible.

Another special thank you to AVIS Car Rental staff who came early and stayed late setting up and helping in so many ways. A thank you to the Salvation Army who hosted the hot lunch, to the organizations who came to offer services, SEARHC, UAS, SAIL, St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, United Methodist Church of Sitka, and the Homeless Coalition. There are many people who are homeless in Sitka today; if you can help, contact the Salvation Army, the Homeless Coalition, or Sitka Outreach and Support: Lifeline Group. Thank you, Sitka, for caring.
