WhaleFest Run
Dear Editor: Last weekend, we had 135-plus people participate in the annual WhaleFest Run/Walk.
It was a beautiful day for a run/walk and I’d like to thank all those who made it possible. Thank you to SEARHC for sponsoring the run. Thanks to the Sitka Sound Science Center staff and WhaleFest Director Tiffany Pearson for helping with details. Thank you to all the volunteers: Lisa Bush, KK Prussian, Carolyn Black, Carolyn McIntyre, Valerie Edwards, Emily Pound, Chris Horan, Jeremy Strong, Randy Hitchcock, and Enzo, the exchange student. And thank you to everyone who participated in the run or came to cheer!

Whalefest Run organizer
Alarm
Dear Editor: The town of Sitka disallowing vehicular access to all of downtown Lincoln Street during cruise ship season is illegal because handicapped and elderly people must have vehicular parking and access.
Tobacco smoking outside Ernie’s and Pioneer bars has to be disallowed because pedestrian exposure to tobacco can cause the deadly anaphylaxis reactions.
Gail Ferris, Sitka
