Shoebox Project
Dear Editor: It is with a spirit of gratefulness that we want to extend our thanks to several businesses in Sitka who contributed to this year’s Operation Christmas Child shoebox project. The Hames Corporation, Alaska Computer Center and White’s Pharmacy made generous donations to help us fill the shoeboxes which are distributed to needy children worldwide.
Caring Sitkans donated hundreds of items, and folks from Calvary Chapel Sitka, Grace Harbor and Sitka Christian Center packed their own boxes.
Altogether 325 shoeboxes were filled up and taken to Alaska Marine Lines who once again graciously provided shipping to Juneau where all the shoeboxes from Southeast Alaska are gathered together and shipped to Los Angeles for distribution.
Shoebox recipients, kids ages 2-14, also will be introduced to Jesus, our reason for the season. To learn more about this project, you can search for Operation Christmas Child online.
