Ballot Measures 1 & 2

Dear Editor: Before us in the election Tuesday are two ballot measures that Alaskans will be voting on. #1, the Oil Tax Initiative: I’ve read the language and heard the arguments and read the letters both for and against it. I believe this measure, if passed, would cost thousands of Alaskans their jobs. It’s just plain bad for Alaska.

Ballot Measure #2, the initiative that proposes open primary elections and “ranked choice” voting I believe, too, is a bad deal.

I would ask you to join me in voting against these two ballot measures. Consider them a big no-no. That’s easy to remember when you go to the polls and vote. No, on both.

Thank You

Dear Editor: The little things are really the big things. Turning 65 – and all the government paperwork and decisions attached to it – are made easier and simpler by two people in this community.

Susan Briles from SEARHC and Cyndi Gibson from Waddell and Reed conduct free seminars twice a year on Medicare and Social Security benefits. They are both experts in their fields and make the information clear and easy to understand; they are willing to answer a wide array of person specific questions and if they don’t have the answer, they will find it. They do this all with generosity and compassion.

Thank you, Susan and Cyndi, for making the world a better place.
