Sitka SAIL

Dear Editor: The following statement is true. Sitka SAIL is veritable treasure. Capital, top shelf!

Jeff Kinnan, Sitka

Dream Big Luncheon

Dear Editor: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska would like to thank Wells Fargo for awarding the Sitka BBBS program with a $2,500 matching grant at our annual Dream Big Luncheon held in Sitka on Nov. 13. The Wells Fargo grant allows BBBS to match any new donations to the program up to $2,500. These funds will allow BBBS to recruit more volunteers and put more Sitka youths on the path to success by matching them with a caring adult role model. We appreciate all of the attendees and donors at the Dream Big Luncheon for helping make the future brighter for Sitka’s youths and serving as positive role models in the community.

The Wells Fargo donation merges with our statewide effort to encourage Alaskans to continue to generously support their local non-profit organizations in their communities during the holiday season. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, transforming how people participate in the giving season.

#GivingTuesday creates a moment around the holidays dedicated to giving – similar to how Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday have become synonymous with holiday shopping. On Tuesday, Dec. 1, members of the community are encouraged to give to an organization they care about by donating or volunteering in a way that is personally meaningful.

Joining to channel the generous spirit of Alaskans, a group of statewide nonprofits have partnered to celebrate, using the hashtag #GivingTuesdayAK on social media. Currently, more than 40 different Alaska organizations are registered as part of the #GivingTuesdayAK campaign. Individuals are also encouraged to post their #UNselfie to their social media accounts. The #UNselfie, or the “selfless selfie”, is a powerful way to show how you are giving and why giving is important to you.

To donate, volunteer, or learn more about Big Brothers Big Sisters or #GivingTuesdayAK, please call 907-747-3500 or visit our website, www.bbbsak.org/donate.
