Dear Editor: We extend hearty thanks to the Hames Corporation for once again supporting the Operation Christmas child shoebox project by making a generous donation. We were able to purchase many items including school supplies, socks, T-shirts, hairbrushes, hair ties, wash cloths and more.
This program provides gifts to needy and downtrodden children in the far reaches of the earth and demonstrates the love of and declares the good news of Jesus. This year, the total number of shoeboxes distributed since 1993 will exceed 200 million! Thank you.

Grant Appreciation
Dear Editor: I would like to thank the Sitka Legacy Foundation and the Alaska Community Foundation for awarding Brave Heart Volunteers a grant for $1,400. BHV is a nonprofit organization that offers free social, emotional, and educational support services to Sitkans who are experiencing grief, loneliness, or nearing the end of life. This grant will allow our volunteers to strengthen connections with their care receivers through the expansion of our lending library.
First, we will be adding several new senior-suitable games, activity books, and puzzles to the library, which volunteers and care receivers may use to add enjoyment to their visits. We will also be creating a booklet of questions and topics that volunteers can use to help start conversations and keep them flowing. The booklet will also contain tips on how to converse with someone who has memory or auditory limitations and will arm our volunteers with valuable ways to enrich the conversations with their care receivers.
We are deeply grateful to the Sitka Legacy Foundation and the Alaska Community Foundation for providing this grant to BHV. We are excited about the fun additions to our resource library and the wonderful benefits to our care receivers and volunteers. In gratitude,
