Report Opened Packages

Dear Editor: I don’t like it when someone opens, or partially opens, my packages. But recently packages from Amazon have arrived in my and a friend’s mailbox partially or fully opened five times in the last two months.

And based on how the packages look when they arrive, it’s quite obvious that the items had been rifled through (enough to decide that ink cartridges, slippers, books and a shoe horn were not worth stealing, but videos were worth stealing.)

So if you have gotten a package recently that looked tampered with, please report it to the U.S. Postal Service Postal Inspector at 877-876-2455 (theft line). They asked that if others are having similar problems they bring their complaints to their attention. The more complaints they receive, the higher the priority of those complaints.

Thanks, and have a safe and happy holiday season!

Pirate Pub Crawl

Dear Editor: The Sitka Chamber of Commerce held the second Pirate Pub Crawl this past weekend and it was a swashbuckling success!

I want to say thank you to the many businesses that participated and supported this fun event. Our Pub Stop Sponsors included the Westmark Sitka, Baranof Island Brewing Company, the Bayview Restaurant and Pub, Ernie’s Old Time Saloon, the Pioneer Bar and Van Winkle and Sons.

Silver Bay Seafoods provide our grand prize, a round trip Alaska Airlines mileage ticket that was awarded to Pirate Salt, aka Robert Nichols! Other prize sponsors included Baranof Island Brewing Company, Bayview Restaurant and Pub, K&L Distributors, Russell’s, Spenard Builders Supply and Westmark Sitka. And last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to Aurora Business Supplies for printing our posters and all of the treasure maps that were handed out to pirates.
