Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

November 2

At 12:35 a.m. a woman said a bear had come into her yard in the 1700 block of Edgecumbe Drive and eaten her grandson’s rabbit. The bear was gone when officers arrived.

At 2:56 a.m. a caller on Granite Creek Road reported a bear had tried to get into a bear-proof trash can. It left and went into the woods.

At 8:25 a.m. a Donna Drive resident said he’d been tracking a bear in the area, and the previous night it had destroyed his chicken coop. Wildlife troopers were notified.

At 8:45 a.m. a resident in the 2800 block of HPR said a large amount of trash near her home was attracting bears. The trash was gone when officers arrived.

At 8:51 a.m. a caller on Valhalla Drive reported trash in the area. The trash was gone when officers arrived.

At 9:32 a.m. a caller said an intoxicated woman had been told to leave a business in the 4600 block of HPR, and had left on foot. The caller asked police to check on her.

At 6 p.m. a woman said two dogs had rushed her and trapped her in her car, scratching her vehicle in the process. The animal control officer spoke to the dogs’ owner.

At 10:29 p.m. city cameras picked up a vehicle parked on the skate park ramp. Officers told the driver not to park there.

November 3

Officers checked on a car parked for four or five days at Sandy Beach and determined the owner was a car rental firm.

At 1:07 a.m. a caller said he needed assistance but gave few details. After searching for some three hours, officers located the man, who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.

At 5:20 a.m. a bear was reported getting into trash on Rudolph Walton Circle. It went into the woods.
