Midwives Benefit
Dear Editor: The cast of the Pacific High School Global Issues class would like to thank our community of Sitka for its donations of time, energy and money to our recent fundraiser.
We raised a nice amount of money to send to the Edna Adan University Hospital in Somaliland whose goal is to train 1,000 midwives. We would like to extend high-fives to all the amazing and hungry community members who came to eat Indian tacos and fried bread with us.
Speaking of which, we would like to warmly hug our parents and family members who donated food and time and heftily thank Sea Mart for donating money to cover our food costs. It really is a wonderful experience to see radiant smiles on such a wide range of faces. Thank you for all your support.

Volunteer Need
Dear Editor: It looks like the ANB’s kitchen remodel problems have been solved, but in order to serve our annual free Thanksgiving community meal, our new oven needs to get to Juneau and back.
The ferry leaves on Wednesday and returns on Friday. We have a van to put the oven in and the repair shop visit there will only take an hour. If you would like a free trip to Juneau, give me a call.

Public Apology
Dear Editor: To: C.T., family and to the public: I want to apologize to you for the choices I made that led to actions that hurt you, your family, the public and myself. There is no excuse for it and from all this I will gain humility and will make better choices so this “mistake” will never happen again.

Fairbanks Four
Dear Editor: I am writing in regards to the Fairbanks Four. A wrongful conviction in 1997 sent four innocent men to prison for the brutal murder of John Hartman.
Astounding recent developments have been brought to light, and truth can no longer remain in the shadows. The Alaska Innocence Project has been diligently investigating this matter since 2008, and in September provided the State of Alaska with an affidavit establishing the guilty party, and that the “Fairbanks Four” played no role in the death of John Hartman. The Alaska Federation of Natives just passed a resolution of support for post-conviction release efforts. Sen. Lisa Murkowski has asked the Alaska assistant attorney general to leave no stone unturned with respect to the question of these unlawful incarcerations.
I have written to Gov. Parnell strongly urging him to seize this opportunity to right an injustice that has festered in our hearts for 16 years; please exonerate these men and thus streamline the process of finally exposing the truth in this matter.
Beyond monetary costs, the price of such wrongful imprisonment is great. Half of their lives have been lost behind bars, and those of us who love these men suffer along with them. Yet we will never give up. Our faith, love, prayers and our fight for their freedom shall not falter. This case is gaining national attention, and the movement for their freedom is growing stronger and stronger. The truth is finally coming into the light, and supporters of the Fairbanks Four stand united.
The Fairbanks Four: Kevin Pease, George Frese, Marvin Roberts and Eugene Vent; these men are my beloved family and friends, and after all these years we are still waiting for them to come home.
It is with all due respect to the family and loved ones of John Hartman, and in the name of truth and justice that I ask you, my fellow Alaskans to please join me in this fight for freedom for the Fairbanks Four.
