Health Care
Dear Editor: I’ve not ever written a newspaper or editor but I am compelled to on behalf of Mountainside Family Healthcare.
I’ve been experiencing a pretty dilapidating illness lately that became more acute Oct. 28. I contacted the clinic and spoke with Colleen (I hope this is the correct name), the office manager, and explained my situation. She was so helpful and I feel went out of her way to accommodate my needs.
The physician I was able to see is Dr. Charles Roessel, who went out of his way to come see me at the clinic instead of in the E.R. He was straight forward, professional (in my eyes) and a firm handshake which I do appreciate. All the staff I encountered were fantastic!
I am a 15-year critical care/E.R. nurse and can get somewhat “testy” when dealing with medical folk. Thankfully, I felt really physically awful and kept my own sometimes arrogance in check! I have not EVER had such a smooth office visit to a clinic in my life!
Myself and girlfriend (a 20-year medical-surgical nurse) have worked in several large hospitals all over the U.S. prior to coming back to Alaska. We were literally stunned at how well we were treated at the clinic. No long wait, no snooty staff, no seemingly judgmental attitude. I personally want to thank all the staff at Mountainside Family Healthcare for your service.

Raise Awareness
Dear Editor: Southeast Alaska Independent Living thanks those who help us to inspire independence and raise awareness of disabilities in October and throughout the year. To the Sentinel Daily News and Raven Radio for running our PSAs and listing our events. To all of the media stations and places with boards for promoting our events.
Additionally SAIL wants to remind everyone that with the weather changing, support your neighbors who need extra assistance by checking on them more often. Many Sitkans with disabilities, who have low vision, are frail or unsteady will become home-bound for the winter.
