Wild Foods Thanks

Dear Editor: On behalf of the board and staff of the Sitka Conservation Society, I’d like to thank everyone who helped make Sunday’s Wild Foods Potluck a delightful evening, full of good food and stimulating conversation that helped us connect with our community and the place in which we live.  The array of dishes was a perfect conjunction of culinary skill and wild abundance.  It was wonderful to share this meal with profound gratitude for living in such a rich and bountiful land.

In addition to the more than 200 people who turned out for our annual Wild Foods Potluck on Nov. 2 at Centennial Hall, we would like to thank all of our members and local business supporters who continue to make our work possible.

In particular, we wish to thank the following individuals and organizations who contributed their time and effort to Sunday’s potluck: the Lauren Wild Trio, Centennial Hall staff, Sarah Ferrency, ALFA, Cooperative Extension, National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Sitka Herring Festival, Sitka Local Foods Network, and the Sitka Global Warming Group.

We would also like to thank the volunteers who helped with set-up and cleanup for the event as well as all those who helped judge our wild food contest, including Lauren Brown, DC, Cathryn Klusmeier, Tim Le, Zeke Blackwell, Noah Galarza, Beata Fiszer, Jessica Manery, Dan Gunn, Ashia Lane, Brian Richardson, Heather Hansen and Hannah Hamburg.

Thank you to the Sitka community for sharing your time and delicious cooking. We look forward to dining with you next November at our 2015 Wild Foods Potluck. Until then, we hope to continue working with our community to strengthen our connections to each other and to the natural world in which we live. Thanks, again.
