Voting Choices

Dear Editor: I want to urge Sitkans to get out and vote today.

I am voting for Alyce Galvin for the U.S. House of Representatives.

She will protect health care coverage for pre-existing conditions, and protect Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. To voters who depend on any of these programs, please get out and vote today for Alyce Galvin. She will vote in Congress to protect the needs of Alaskans.

Unsure of what a pre-existing condition is? It can be heart disease, cancer, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, COPD, multiple sclerosis or many other diseases you or a family member may have or have had. If you had this condition before your current medical coverage began you could lose this coverage. If you are looking for coverage you may not be able to get covered care for a current condition.

I am voting for Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins for State House.

Jonathan works with Alaska House members across political parties for the good of Alaskans. His focus is on fisheries, rural Alaskans, Native Alaskans and education. Almost all Southeast Alaskans belong to one or more of these groups. We all benefit from his hard work in Juneau.

I am voting for Mark Begich for governor of Alaska.

Mark supports education. Our school budgets have seen huge cuts in the last several budget cycles.

The value a state places on education affects not only our students who must compete for jobs, it also reflects what we value as Alaskans and where we are going . States that do not provide a good education to their citizens do not show respect for their people. In this sate we currently do not train enough people to fill industry needs. It is hard to attract new business to a state without a strong education system. Continual budget cuts to education undermines the possible results form the very talented people we have working in our educational system.

Support education by supporting Mark Begich for governor.

I hope to see you at the polls. Voting is your way to make a difference.

‘Believe’ Thank You

Dear Editor: Keet Gooshi Heen would like to thank the community for their generous support in our recent Believe Fundraiser.

The school is anticipating the arrival of the items between Nov. 30 and Dec. 3. Once the order has arrived we will get them handed out to the students quickly so they can deliver them.  Once again, thank you for supporting Keet Gooshi Heen students.

Sports Coverage

Dear Editor: Bravo to Klas Stolpe’s terrific coverage on Sitka swimmers at the state swim and dive championship. Excellent sport writing with lots of heart and soul.

I also want to congratulate the team and Coach Ben for making Sitka proud. As a old swim parent, I know how hard you all worked to get there. Bravo to all the swimmers and parents/support teams.

Turn on Lights

Dear Editor: To Sitka Drivers:  I know you believe you don’t have to turn on your lights when driving in the early morning or early evening, because, after all, you are thinking, “I can see where I am going.”

However, it is not an issue of you seeing, it is an issue of you being seen.  So please, turn on your lights. There are signs all along the road which state, “Lights on at all times,” so just follow those simple requests and we will all be safer out there.  Thank you.
