School Funding
Dear Editor: Mr. Sparrowgrove, thanks for providing the survey on graduation requirements. Cutting electives is not an option. Electives motivate students. Please fight to represent the need to maintain the high quality of the curriculum in the district.
Now that the elections are over, new assaults on school funding are to be expected. Please keep me informed about every opportunity to join the resistance against cuts. Unfortunately, I can not attend very many evening meetings, but I will write the Sentinel and take on the Assembly or anybody else at every turn to defend the schools.
I do think that there is merit to folding PHS into SHS. SHS is fully capable of handling increased adaptability toward students with alternative needs. There is no sense in paying for the operation of two facilities. I also think that intramural sports and streamlining of activities travel into tournaments-only, are viable sources of cost adjustment.
Thanks for your activism in keeping parents informed and involved.

Support Bert, Sheila
Dear Editor: Bert Stedman not unlike Dick Eliason and Ben Grussendorf has been a statesman for our great state, he has always put the state, S.E. region and Sitka ahead of any political concerns. At this time when our state has such complex and difficult decisions to make Bert is exactly the kind of legislator we need and he needs all the help he can get.
Sheila Finkenbinder is just what Bert and our state needs to confront and help solve the challenges Alaska is facing. Sheila is experienced, confident, independent, and tough enough to do what is right for Alaska, S.E. region and Sitka. To confront our current challenges legislators need life experiences in the work force, political arena, and solving real problems to get the job done. Once again Sheila is such a person. Sheila and Bert will a great team in Juneau for Sitka and Alaska.
