October 13, 2022, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

October 11

At 12:39 a.m. a caller said he’d returned to town and found a house-sitter had reported seeing a suspicious person – but apparently it was a bear.

Police issued a bear attractant citation to a resident on Darrin Drive.

A curfew violation was logged at 3:18 a.m. in the1800 block of SMC.

At 3:59 a.m. a caller said she’d seen a bear getting into trash in the 2300 block of HPR. Officers issued a verbal warning, and notified Fish and Game.

At 6:43 a.m. officers gave a warning about having a bear attractant to a resident in the 3000 block of HPR.

At 1:31 p.m. a driver struck a woman and her son, 4, at Lake and Lincoln streets. The mom had a head injury and she and her son were taken to the hospital, police said. An investigation is underway.

At 4:59 p.m. a trespassing complaint came in from the 1800 block of HPR.

A caller reported harassment in the 2900 block of HPR.

An incident of drunkenness was reported at a downtown bar at 9:11 p.m.

At 10:50 p.m. a caller said a bear was trying to get into a chicken coop. Police didn’t see a bear, but advised the caller to get an electric fence.

October 12

At 12:39 a.m. a teenager was reported to have shot and killed a bear in the1400 block of Edgecumbe Drive. Police said he’d taken a gun with him when he went to investigate a noise outside the house, and shot when he was startled by the bear. Wildlife troopers are investigating, police said.

Between 2:57 a.m. and 3:15 a.m., police issued written warnings about having bear attractants to eight addresses on Harbor Mountain Road, and in the 2900 to 3200 blocks of HPR.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls Tuesday.
