Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

October 13

At 3:43 a.m. a bear was reported getting into trash on Brady Street. Later, police gave a Brady Street resident a warning for having a bear attractant.

Suspicious activity was reported at Crescent Harbor at 7:19 a.m.

An animal call came in at 10:11 a.m. from Charteris Street.

A pickup and a van containing trash exposed to bears and birds were taken from 410 Lake Street to a parking area.

A dog call came in from Merrill Street at 11:36 a.m.

At 12:28 p.m. a caller reported a driver had hit a deer near the Indian River Bridge. The  deer had run off and wildlife troopers searched unsuccessfully to find it.

A caller reported the theft of about $500 in items from a vehicle.

At 6:46 p.m. two men were cited for drinking in public, at the Crescent Harbor shelter. A man and a woman were given warnings.

At 9:09 p.m. a caller on Anna Drive reported a bear was on the front porch eating the cat’s food, and at 9:25 p.m. it was reported circling the house.

At 9:35 p.m. a warning about having a bear attractant was given to a resident on Riggs Road.

October 14

At 1 a.m. a verbal warning about a bear attractant was given to a resident on Wolff Drive; at 2:23 a.m. a citation for having  a bear attractant was issued in the 1600 block of SMC; and at 2:37 a.m. a warning was issued on Spruce Street and another to the landlord of the residence.

Warnings about having bear attractants were issued at 3:36 a.m. on Kaagwaantaan; at 3:41 a.m. and 3:43 a.m. on Marine Street; at 4 a.m. on Andrew P. Hope Street; at 4:19 a.m. on Versa Place; and at 4:44 a.m. in the 700 block of Lake Street.

 

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received two ambulance calls Thursday.

 

Sitka Police

Jason Svilar, 29, was charged Thursday with driving with a revoked license.

 

Indicted

Robert Louis Alderman Jr., 59, was indicted Oct. 6 by a grand jury in Sitka on a class A felony charge of assault in the first degree. The charge stemmed from an assault on July 17.

He is to appear before the Superior Court in Sitka on Oct. 19.

 

In Court

Mary C. Deveney, 29, on a June 10 charge of driving under the influence  was sentenced Tuesday to 90 days with 87 suspended, and fined $2,000 with $500 suspended. She is to obtain a behavioral health assessment and follow recommendations. Her license was revoked for 90 days , and after regaining  driving privileges she is to use an ignition interlock device for six months. She will be on probation for one year.

Candace M. Rutledge, 37, on a charge of refusing to submit to a chemical test was sentenced to 120 days with 100 days suspended, and fined $4,000 with $1,000 suspended. She is to obtain a behavioral health assessment and follow recommendations. Her license is revoked for a year, and after regaining driving privileges she is to use an ignition interlock device for one year. She was placed on probation for two years.

Marsha Jean Howard, 69, on a Fish and Game charge of violating commercial sablefish possession and landing requirements on Sept. 24 was fined $1,000 with $500 suspended.
