Conference Thanks
Dear Editor: A big thank you goes to Matt Hunter, Bobbi Jordan, Lyle Sparrowgrove, Rebecca Himschoot and everyone on the team who is bringing the Alaska Math and Science Conference to town Oct. 23-25.
All of Sitka’s teachers are getting an easily accessible professional development opportunity, while at the same time Sitka businesses and citizens are benefitting from getting a couple of hundred special visitors from out of town. This conference is a big win for Sitka and would not have happened unless some very busy educators on both sides of the bridge took it on. Gunalchéesh and thanks.
Doug Osborne, Sitka
Thanks to Darrell
Dear Editor: Recently, Darrell Windsor of Sitka Appliance Repair, volunteered to service and install an aging chiller in a third-grade classroom at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School.
This chiller is an essential piece of equipment for rearing salmon from eggs to fry. Thanks to Darrell and Sitka Appliance Repair third-graders will once again be able to observe the lifecycle of salmon firsthand this school year. We are grateful for such generous support.
