Candidate Trump
Dear Editor: The Republicans are like a gut-shot jackal eating itself. They are victims of their own making, they have created a monster named Trump. They are so afraid of him there are Republic Super PAC ads on TV running against him. I kid you not. This bears repeating. The Republicans are so afraid Trump might win the nomination, they are running attack ads against him on TV. They make nasty accusations, the worst being that he is really a dirty rotten LIBERAL. He was for single-payer health care, he was for abortion, he was for higher taxes on the right, he was a DEMOCRAT!!
They created him by crippling Congress and staying on their Republican talking points all these Obama years and obstructing Congress. They all sounded alike, they all voted alike. They all dressed alike. And here comes Trump! A clown among the suits.
I predict Trump will get only 28 percent of the vote. That is the percentage of voters who, in 2008, when we finally got rid of them, thought Bush and Cheney had ‘‘done a good job.’’ I’m not saying these are the same people, but pretty much.
So Trump is at war again with Fox. Oh, he’s made peace again? Do we want his finger on the nuclear button? I’ve never seen a single episode of ‘‘The Apprentice’’ but is this what it is like? Are there re-runs I could look at? Should I?
I’m not worried. I’m believing in that 28 percent model. Even though the U.S. voters re-elected Bush and Cheney in 2004, killing my faith in them forever, I predict they would never elect a president Trump. The man is a caricature of himself.

Beautiful City
Dear Editor: My wife and I just took our second cruise to Alaska and have seen many cities from Seward to Fairbanks.
By far, our most favorite is Sitka! Your scenery is well above the average we’ve seen. Your city is beautiful and clean and the people are so friendly.
When I was in college in the 1950s, a friend was from Sitka and he swore it was the best place on earth. That was hard to believe, but now I can see why he felt that way.
