Home Health

Dear Editor: SEARHC, why are you taking away Home Health?

Many of us elders are just a diagnosis away from needing home care for someone in our homes. I would say that most folks do not want to go to long-term care nor the hospital even if they are dying.

I encourage SEARHC administration to cancel doing away with Home Health.

Successful Fundraiser

Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Cancer Survivor’s Society Board of Directors, we wish to give a “HUGE THANK YOU” to all who attended contributed and donated to our recent fundraiser.

A spaghetti dinner and an auction including desserts was held on Sunday, Sept. 17. The event was held at the Sitka Elks Lodge 1662, sponsored by the Sitka Emblem Club 142. The event was a huge success. Our best ever!

We also want to thank the Sitka Sentinel for all the good press they gave to us for this event. Also KIFW, and Raven Radio.

The delicious spaghetti dinner was cooked and served by our Sitka Emblem Club 142.

The auction was absolutely unbelievable and the desserts donated were one-of-a-kind!

Auctioneer Keith Perkins was excellent, wonderful, and kept things lively and so much fun. The lodge was packed and stayed that way through the whole auction. All the items donated  were all wanted and bid on.

The main focus of the event was to have the quilt raffle ticket drawings. The first drawing was won by Jarrod Egan, he chose the beautiful “Woven Ribbons” queen-size quilt presented and made by the Ocean Wave Quilters Guild. The second drawing was won by Koali Pontual-Thorne. She chose the hand woven yellow cedar basket created by Haida artist/educator Charlie Skultka Jr. The third drawing was won by Dave Tonkin, for the one night at Camp Star Light, at the Retro Trailer Vacation Rental, donated by Cathy Goddard.

Thanks to all these giving people who donated their time and creativity for these items for the raffle drawing. There were so many generous donors and helpers who made this event such a success.

Everyone we asked just jumped in and said “yes” for sure we will donate. We even had donors jump in at the night of the event, adding to the auction items. Our Sitka merchants are always ready to help. We certainly would never leave anyone out.

We are planning to do “Get Your Pink On” next October for this event. Will be ready for another great fun evening. A gratitude of thanks to all who came and supported us. We truly appreciate you all.

Our mission is to honor, educate, comfort and inspire individuals and families affected by cancer. With these funds raised we will be able to continue to help people in Sitka and their families who are dealing with cancer, giving mini grants and support.

Thanks for blessing us and so many others, Sitka.
