JKT to Speak

Dear Editor: Many Sitkans remember the afternoon last February when JKT led our community through Gov. Dunleavy’s proposed budget.

The scenarios we heard were frightening, but that knowledge also empowered us. Out of that talk came a winter and spring of incredible advocacy from Sitkans as we joined thousands of other Alaskans in testifying on legislation and contacting lawmakers. Did it make a difference? With the governor, maybe less than we’d hoped. But many lawmakers listened and so did other Alaskans. A huge wave of advocacy swept our state – and it continues to roll.

JKT will be back at Sitka High School this Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. to prepare us for another legislative session that will need our voices. Please join fellow Sitkans to learn what we can expect from Gov. Dunleavy’s upcoming budget and how we can stand up for our schools, ferry system, and elder care. For more information, contact Beth at 738-9942 or email bethshortrhoads@gmail.com.
