    The following calls were received by police by 8 a.m. today:
October 24
    A caller asked police to check on a client, whose husband had texted he was going to kill her then himself. A woman was taken to a hospital.
    A man who had fallen off his bike on Harbor Drive requested an ambulance.
    A caller said residents on Cascade Street were overfilling their garbage can and birds were getting into it. Officers talked to a man who agreed to clean up the mess and secure the can.
    At 11:21 a.m. a caller said a bus was being driven erratically on HPR. Officers spoke to the driver, who said he was swerving because of high winds.
    A caller said a man had been caught on video at a property he’d been trespassed from.
    A Katlian Street resident said an old emergency shutoff valve that came out of a Washington salvage yard had been stolen. It was described as cast iron and looking like a ship’s wheel with a 3- inch shaft.
    A car rental business at the airport said a vehicle was missing. Officers located it and talked to the driver, who said he thought it was his nephew’s truck that had been left at the airport for him. Officers saw a similar truck in long-term parking, and determined no theft had occurred.
    At 9:09 p.m. officers reported a downed tree was blocking the road at HPR and Nelson Logging Road intersection. DOT cleared the roadway.
    At 11:17 a man was reported staggering into the road at SMC and Indian River Road. A family member was able to care for him, but at 11:43 p.m. he was reported to have wandered from home, and was taken into protective custody due to his level of intoxication.


Sitka Police
    Carter Swedeen, 16, was cited for reckless driving following a one-vehicle traffic accident Wednesday afternoon in the 3000 block of Sawmill Creek Road. No injuries resulted, officers said.

Emergency Calls
    Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 9:18 a.m., 9:31 a.m.,  12:09 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 6:14 p.m. and 11:16 p.m. Wednesday. At 5:19 p.m. and engine and ambulance were sent to the 3000 block of Sawmill Creek Road.
