Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:

October 23

Between 1:39 a.m. and 3:58 p.m. four bears were reported in the 3400 block of HPR and 702 Pherson Street.

A welfare check was requested at 805 HPR at 10:18 a.m.

A bike was reported stolen from the 500 block of O’Cain.

At 1:51 p.m. suspicious activity was reported at McDonald’s.

A civil dispute was reported near the Hames center at 7:15 p.m.

At 8:57 p.m. a bear was reported on Toivo Circle.

At  10:20 p.m. suspicious activity was reported at 1311 SMC.

A noise complaint in the 4600 block of HPR was logged at 11:52 p.m.

October 24

A traffic accident with injury was reported in the 2900 block of HPR at 1:22 a.m.

At 3:14 a.m. a bear was reported at 2407 HPR.

At 7:39 a.m. a bear was seen at 2116 HPR.

A caller reported suspicious activity at Sandy Beach at 4:20 p.m.

A disturbance was reported in the 3200 block of HPR at 5:35 p.m.

A bear was reported in the 600 block of DeGroff Street at 10:39 p.m.

October 25

Bear calls came in at 2:28 a.m. on Indian River Road; at 3:24 a.m. in the 200 block of Cascade Creek Road; and at 3:38 a.m. from Eberhardt Drive.

At 11:22 disorderly conduct was reported at a store in the 1300 block of SMC.

A disorderly conduct in the 4700 block of HPR was reported at 11:47 a.m.

Suspicious activity was reported in the 3800 block of HPR at 4:32  p.m.

 

Sitka Police

Carl E. Whitehurst, 41, was charged Friday with violating conditions of release.

George T. Yocum, 21, was charged Saturday with driving under the influence.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Friday, five on Saturday and six on Sunday.

 

In Court

Jeffrey Vincent Goodman II, 27, Anchorage, was indicted by a Sitka grand jury on a charge of assault in the second degree, a class B felony. He is accused of causing physical injury to another person by means of a dangerous instrument, on Oct. 10. He is to report to the court at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 27.

 

Coast Guard

A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka Jayhawk helicopter crew delivered a dewatering pump to a disabled fishing vessel south of Icy Bay Wednesday night. 

The 55-foot Elise Marie also was aided by the Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak C-130 Hercules airplane crew, which established communications; the Coast Guard Cutter John McCormick crew, which took the boat in tow for Yakutat at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday; and the Yakutat Police Department, which took over the tow near shore. The Elise Marie arrived in Yakutat at 11:30 p.m.

 

The McCormick’s commanding officer, Lt. Joseph Sullivan-Springhetti, complimented the Elise Marie crew for preparing the vessel for the delivery of the dewatering pump, “which greatly reduced our time in a hover over his vessel ....”
