Auction Thanks

Dear Editor: I would like to publicly recognize and thank ALPS Federal Credit Union and Tongass Federal Credit Union for their remarkable generosity to Brave Heart Volunteers. This past weekend, ALPS and TFCU held a silent auction to benefit BHV and they also made matching donations to raise a total of $6,281 for BHV!

Thank you to ALPS President and CEO Sandi Riggs, TFCU President and CEO Helen Mickell, all their board members, and staffs for arranging such a wonderful event.

A special thank you also goes to the artists, businesses, and private donors who provided items for the auction. We are deeply grateful for the incredible support, which will help us provide essential services to Sitkans who are experiencing loneliness and grief, or nearing the end of life.

In gratitude,

Angie DelMoral, Executive Director

Brave Heart Volunteers, Sitka

Legacy Foundation Grant

Dear Editor: On behalf of the board of directors of Sitka Babies and Books, and of all the children who will benefit from their wonderful gift, I would like to thank the Alaska Community Foundation’s 2022 Sitka Legacy Foundation Grant Program for fulfilling our grant request to support the Sitka Babies and Books Library Programs project for the upcoming year. These monies will be used to purchase board books to be presented to participants in our monthly programs at the library.

We sincerely appreciate the kindness and generosity of the Alaska Community Foundation as we move back into the library for in-person presentations and programs.

Jane Seesz, Board Member,

Sitka Babies and Books

Vote for Himschoot

Dear Editor: I am writing to voice my support for Rebecca Himschoot on November 8, and to encourage you to get out and vote for her as well.

We have had a long run of responsible leadership in the Alaska State House from Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins since 2012. It is easy to get complacent and to assume that Sitka will continue to have strong representation in the Legislature and I believe we can with Rebecca Himschoot.

Rebecca is talented, hard-working, and remarkably thoughtful in her work, and we need her as an advocate for Sitka in the Legislature. Please make sure you have a plan to vote, and cast your vote on November 8.

Angie Bowers, Sitka

Supporting the Library

Dear Editor: The Friends of Sitka Public Library would like to thank the public for their continued support of the library – especially in this year leading up to the library’s 100th year celebration.

We see that support in many donations to Pick.Click.Give. We also appreciate donations made to the ongoing book sale. Board member Jeff Budd spearheads fundraising through the very popular Adult Spelling Bee and the new Sitka Book Challenge.

In the last many years, we have periodically reported on expenditures made using funds raised during the remodelling of the Sitka Public Library. Our most recent expenditures included sponsorship of the library’s summer reading program and support for the upcoming 100th year celebration. All remaining funds will be used to add and upgrade furniture in the library. We will let you know when that happens.

A final way to support the library is to serve on the board of the Friends of Sitka Public Library – a 501 (c) 3 dedicated to supporting the mission of the library. Please call/text Kari at 752-7323 if you would like to serve on the board and attend short monthly meetings at the library.

Thank you,

Kari Sagel, President,

Friends of Sitka Public Library
