Spookgetti Benefit

Dear Editor: Youth Advocates of Sitka would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful community of Sitka for making their 1st Annual Spookgetti Fundraiser Dinner on Oct. 21 a great success.

We had a fabulous turnout for the event and provided 75 spaghetti dinners for local Sitkans. We especially want to express our sincere gratitude to AC Lakeside for the generous donation to our agency. We also want to thank Mary Magnuson and the Mean Queen for providing additional items for our event. The community has, once again, proven that Sitka is an amazing place to live, work, and play. With gratitude,

Youth Advocates of Sitka Staff,

Heather Meuret, Executive Director

Brew Festival

Dear Editor: The Sitka Economic Development Association hosted its first Alaska Day Brew Festival this year. Even with the rain and windy forecast the event moved forward with success. I would like to thank the folks who made the event possible this year.

Thank you to Hal with the Sitka Historical Society, which has run the event for the past five years, who passed on best practice from years past. The breweries, distributors and their teams that provided beer and participated; Harbor Mountain Brewery, Midnight Sun Brewery, Alaska Brewery, King Street Brewery, Matanuska Brewery, Double Shovel Cider Co., Zip Black Booch, and Marissa Carson with Republic National Distribution Company, who helped coordinate and run the event.

All the volunteers: Alicia Patterson, Wayne Patterson, Keith Williams, Carolyn MacIntyre, Marlene Reinert, Kelly Schwartz, Holley Reeder, Bev Brill, Kevin Meyer, Roger Hames, Ken Cameron, Adora Dumag, Ptarmica Garnick, Trevor Harang and Cory Baggen.

Tiffany Pearson with Sitka Wedding and Events who helped plan and run the event. Seafood Producers Coop. for providing ice. The Blatchley Middle School staff and Sitka High football team volunteers for providing tasty food. Slack Tide and the Seattle Firefighters Pipes and Drums bagpipers for good music.

KIFW for live broadcasting. Chris Balovich and the CBC Construction team for helping set up and tear down the fencing and stage. The Samson Tug and Barge team for helping clean up. Aspen Hotels for providing lodging for out-of-town breweries. The City and Borough of Sitka and Harrigan Centennial Hall staff for working with us to host the event.

Thank you to our main sponsors of the event: Royal Caribbean, Alaska Airlines and the SEDA Board.

Finally, thanks to all the folks who came out to brave the weather and have fun. I hope I didn’t miss anyone, but if I did, thank you.

Garry White,

SEDA Executive Director

Rebecca Himschoot

Dear Editor: I am writing this letter of support for our Sitka candidate for the state Legislature. This is an important election and we need good representation for our district.

Rebecca is an accomplished and talented educator. She has served on our city Assembly with a strong, common sense approach and voice that has served the community well for the betterment of Sitka.

I believe she will take her positive experiences in education and on the Assembly coupled with her common sense approach to leadership and serve our district well in the state Legislature.

Please join me in supporting Rebecca Himschoot for the state House of Representatives to represent our district.

Stan Filler, Former Mayor,

City and Borough of Sitka
