Path of Hope

Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Cancer Survivor Society we want to give a big thank you to Michael Colliver and his crew from the city. They have installed a new dog bag, and garbage container at the Path of Hope. We have also installed cameras and signs telling folks that the park now has surveillance cameras. We are hoping this will keep our park save and clean. We also thank Susan Padilla, Steve Lawrie, Bobbie and Dennis Carlson who keep the park in tip-top shape. We can’t thank them enough.

We also want to inform everyone that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Lesa Way is the events coordinator of the walk/run event fundraiser for our Sitka Cancer Survivor Society. Mark you calendar for Saturday, Oct. 14, registration is at 9 a.m. under the bridge. Also another October event is ‘‘Get Your Pink On,’’ Saturday, Oct. 21, from 2-8 p.m., at the Baranof Island Brewing Company. Contact Susan for more details. So lots of fun events ahead for this month.

We want to remind all of Cancer Support Group facilitated by Mary Beth Palof which meets monthly. She can be reached at 623-0842. We continue to give mini-grants to anyone who is dealing with cancer to be used for medically-related expenses or travel and out-of-town expenses, and also can be used for utility ills, groceries, wherever the need is the greatest. Anyone needed an application, please contact Candi Barger at Sitka Realty.

We are currently selling raffle tickets for the beautiful quilts and handmade moccasins, which help to fund the mini grants. Please contact Bonnie Richards for more information about the tickets or to purchase one. Without the help of all our generous donations these would not be possible.

Come check out the Path of Hope Inspirational Park if you haven’t been there recently. For those who don’t know where it is the location is on Moller Drive behind Sitka Community Hospital and behind the running track at Moller Field. It is looking awesome! Thanks again, Sitka.
