Intuitive Vote
Dear Editor: The election is fast approaching and it looks like a landslide for the Democrats to me. I mean, the Democrats will get the women’s vote, right? The Republicans have been shamelessly intrusive of women’s reproductive choice and are trying to shed the label of their War on Women.
The Democrats should get the gay vote, the environmentalist vote, the Hispanic vote, the African-American vote, the vote of the millions denied Medicare by Republican governors and Republican-controlled state legislatures (like Alaska). They should get the vote of people who believe in science, those millions working at the $7.25 an hour minimum wage, the postal workers vote since 80,000 of them are due to be laid off Jan. 1 due to Republican legislation and their desire to privatize the postal system.
They should get the union vote, the climate change believer vote, the college student vote, and those 10 million or so who have benefitted from Obamacare. Only now that it seems to be working the Republicans call it the Affordable Care Act. And they’ll get the vote of the thousands (or millions?) of pissed-off people who manage to register in spite of the Republican-sponsored Voter ID laws.
Let’s see, the Republicans will surely get the vote of those 5 percent of Americans who own 60 percent of the nation’s wealth. And, they’ll get the climate change deniers vote, the anti-abortion vote and the ‘‘drill baby drill’’ vote. And the anti-Obama vote which just might be their biggest block.
    Am I missing something here?

Carnival Thanks
Dear Editor: Blatchley’s annual carnival was a huge success! We thank all who attended and hope everyone had fun playing games, jumping in the bounce houses, and getting their faces painted.
Thank you to the many contributors, without which the carnival would not be possible. We appreciate the constant support of our youth because it enables them to participate in many great extracurricular activities.
Thank you to the Hames Corporation, the Junk Trunk, Napa Auto Parts, Sitka True Value, Harry Race Pharmacy, the Cellar, Old Harbor Books, Ben Franklin, My fAEvorite Store, and the U.S. Post Office.
Volunteers and supporters included Catherine Hawk, Woody Widmark, Jarett Hirai, Katherine Howell, Gary Atkinson, DC Brown, Paul Norwood, Karl Jordan, Stephanie Peterson, Jane Eidler, Lanis Beach, Bobbi Jordan, Americorps volunteers Emily Borntrager, Noah Galarza, Grant Grigoryan, and Lauren Brown, and all the great students from Blatchley.

Impressed with JKT
Dear Editor: Jonathon Kreiss-Tomkins? ... a breath of fresh air! I am utterly impressed with his keen intellect, visionary perspective, dedication to public service, and genuine humility. Let’s keep our local young man in office. I am persuaded that he can only do what is best for the lot of us.
