TEAME Support

Dear Editor: As a longtime member and former president of the Teachers’ Education Association–Mt. Edgecumbe (TEAME), I am overwhelmed by the support we have received recently! On Wednesday, TEAME members were joined by members of the Sitka Education Association, parents of MEHS students, MEHS alumni, and other supportive community advocates in a quick rally to encourage Gov. Walker and Lt. Gov. Mallott to honor their previous commitment to get TEAME a fair contract.

Since Wednesday, we have also received significant support from friends of TEAME and Mt. Edgecumbe High School who have been emailing the Department of Administration, whichoversees the state’s contract negotiators.

TEAME members have shown up to work two school years in a row without a signed contract, and we are asking to be able to afford to live and work in Sitka. As the smallest bargaining unit in the State government, we know that we account for a very small portion of the state’s budget and simply want a fair contract.

Thank you very much, gunalchéesh hó hó, Háw’aa, Quyana, Taikuu, Basee to everyone who has stepped up to support us so far!

Christy Anderson, Sitka
