Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
October 4
At 1:46 a.m. a caller said someone appeared to be sleeping in a vehicle on Burkhart Drive and temperatures were down.
At 7:06 a.m. a bear nuisance citation was issued to a resident on Hemlock Street.
At 7:19 a.m. trash was reported scattered on Valhalla Drive. An officer picked up the trash.
A caller reported a possible fraud in which a third party may have opened an account.
At 2:33 p.m. a welfare check was requested on Lake Street where people were reported sleeping in a vehicle. The vehicle left as police arrived, but officers stopped it and made sure everyone was OK.
At 5:18 p.m. a driver was reported to have left a gas station without paying. He returned later and paid.
At 10:20 p.m. people were reported at SMC and Eagle Beach. Officers found they were looking at the stars.
At 10:37 p.m. an officer reported he was in the Sitka High parking lot with a very large bear and spilled trash. Police planned to work with the high school on making changes in handling of trash.
October 5
At 12:26 a.m. people were reported at the shooting range in the 5200 block of HPR. They told officers skies were clear and they were looking at stars.
At 2:26 a.m. a bear was reported to have dragged trash on Observatory Street. Officers picked up the trash.
At 6:12 a.m. and 6:34 a.m. officers gave residents in the 200 block of Marine Street verbal warnings for having garbage out. The officers picked up the garbage.
