Benefit Thanks
Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Cancer Survivor’s Society Board of Directors, we wish to give a “BIG THANKS” to all who attended, contributed and donated to our recent fundraiser. A spaghetti dinner, an auction including desserts was held on Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Sitka Elks Lodge, sponsored by the Sitka Emblem Club 142.
Our event was a huge success! We also thank the Sentinel for all the good press they gave to us for this event.
The delicious spaghetti dinner was cooked and served by our Sitka Emblem Club 142. The auction was absolutely unbelievable and the desserts donated were one of a kind! Auctioneer Dave Miller was excellent, wonderful, and he made the auction a fun successful event.
The main focus of the event was to have the quilt raffle and gift certificate drawing. The first drawing was won by Kathy Traeger, and she chose the queen-size “Scrappy-Doo-Dah” quilt presented and made by Ocean Wave Quilters Guild. The second drawing was won by Carol Hitchcock, and she chose the double-size “Believe in Miracles” quilt presented by Gloria Scigliano, quilted by Vicki Swanson. The last drawing, was won by Loren Olsen, the $100 gift card to Island Artist Gallery, donated by Linda Janacek. We thank everyone who purchased a raffle ticket and for their continued support.
There were so many generous donors and helpers who made our event such a success. We wouldn’t want to leave anyone out. We are planning to make this become an annual event. All of us had a great fun evening. A gratitude of thanks to all who came and supported us.
Our mission is to honor, educate, comfort and inspire individuals and families affected by cancer. With the funds raised we are able to help people of Sitka and their families who are dealing here with cancer with mini grants and support. We provide grants of $1,000 the first year, thereafter $500 per year, up to five years. Grant applications can be picked up at Sitka Realty or Email sitkacancersurvivorssociety@gmail.com.
