Cultural Support

Dear Editor: The works of William Shakespeare, the epic sagas and legends of the Scandinavian nations, songs and legends of the Saami, the ancient myths of the Greeks and Romans.

These are some things which I had enjoyed throughout my life, and my life has been enriched greatly by these.

I have no doubt that your lives have been enriched greatly by these as well.

Whatever your ancestral heritage may be, there is something beautiful, worth preserving and sharing.

I ask that you remember and celebrate those good things from those ancient lineages.

As Indigenous Peoples’ Day approaches, we who are Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian invite you to learn and enjoy the good things of our cultures so that your lives may be enriched just as mine had been by learning of the good things from  cultures outside of Alaska.

We can learn from each other.

We can uphold each other.

We can strengthen each other.

Gunalchéesh. Thank you for allowing me this moment.
