Health Summit Thanks
Dear Editor: Thanks to everyone who helped to make the 13th annual Sitka Health Summit Planning Day a big success. In preparation for the big day, community members submitted over 100 ideas prior to the event for participants to consider. Then on Sept. 23, 40 fantastic folks gathered virtually to spend the day discussing, evaluating, and intentionally choosing the new health initiatives.
Our civic-minded planners have always been the backbone of our annual goal-setting event. This year the fantastic 40 navigated the virtual space and skillfully selected two ideas that are inspiring, ambitious, and doable. The 2021-2022 goals are ending homelessness in Sitka/building the cabin community and getting a sustainable community schools program going. These two goals are stellar and will make our community stronger and healthier.
The Sitka Health Summit is coordinated, funded, and supported by a coalition of local groups that includes the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, Sitka Counseling/Hope Coalition, Sitka Tribe of Alaska Social Services, Sitkans Against Family Violence, Sitka Salmon Shares, Sitka Conservation Society, Harry Race Pharmacy/White’s Inc., First Bank, the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus, the State of Alaska Division of Public Health-Section of Public Health Nursing, Southeast Radiation Oncology Center, Outer Coast, Spinning Moon Apothecary, and the Sitka School District.
Thanks to all our sponsors and to everyone who supported the planning day. Finally, we want to thank everyone who will be supporting these exciting new health goals. With a wave of community support these good ideas will become sweat realities.
