Hospital Advisory Committee
Dear Editor: Have you seen the list of names recommended for the Secret Sitka Hospital Advisory Committee? No, I just learned it is called The SEARHC Sitka Community Health Council. The one the “task force,” also secret, promised would provide Sitka with – I thought – representative input, evaluation, overview, and hopefully information to us lowly, incompetent Sitkans. Well, dear Assembly members and SEARHC multiple committees, please allow time and provide information for us folks in the public so we know who they are before they are “appointed” by the Assembly or whoever is behind the scenes. And please listen to what we think before appointing them onto that potentially powerful “local” committee. Thank you.
Might it be time for Sitkans to take more aggressive charge of our town? Might we insist on information in HARD COPY – starting now – about each of those candidates. Who the heck are they? What are their qualifications? Who selected them? Were they promised later influence on The Council in exchange for staying quiet during the insensitive, insulting, takeover of our Community Hospital. Including the unnecessary removing of familiar pictures in the hallways and lobby of our leased Sitka Community Hospital building? Was that really necessary? Strip all identity of decades of care, babies, illnesses, injuries, dying, and so many, many awesome recoveries? A hospital is a major community institution. And a major responsibility of city government. We Sitkans did not relinquish that to SEARHC. Did we?
