Dear Editor: As we are nearing our celebration of the birth of Jesus, we want to take this opportunity to thank the many people who generously donated to Operation Christmas Child this year: Hames Corporation, White’s Pharmacy and the many local individuals who gave money and items for the shoeboxes, or packed their own boxes. Once again, Alaska Marine Lines has graciously provided shipping for all the boxes from all the participating communities in Southeast Alaska!
Since 1993 Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, has collected shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies and personal care items which are donated to millions of children around the world, many of whom have never received a gift. The children are also introduced to Jesus through The Greatest Gift and The Greatest Journey discipleship course. If you would like to “build” a shoebox online search for samaritanspurse.org build a shoebox online.
May we all ponder the meaning of Christmas when the Savior of the world came to earth, our gift wrapped in swaddling clothes. Thank you,
Susan Jensen on behalf of Calvary Chapel Sitka
Denise Klingler on behalf of Sitka Christian Center
