Patrick Cavlan

Dies in Ireland;

Sitkan was 50

Patrick Joseph Cavlan went peacefully to Heaven by the merciful arm of God on June 7, 2015, in the wee hours of the morning in Belfast, Ireland.

Pat radiantly shone, and shared the love of Christ wherever he went; his smile was contagious. He worked as an evangelist in some of the darkest corners of this life. Pat shared the love of Jesus with the destitute, and became as one, at home on the street.

Pay was truly “in this world, but not of this world.” An innocent child of God, he faced many hardships, overcoming them all by the Holy Spirit.

Pat was a peacemaker, and loved by all he met. His deep humbleness and gentleness made him great. Patrick is dearly missed by his family and friends in Ireland, and the United States.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s Chapel in Coalsland, Co. Tyrone, Ireland, at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12. Patrick will be interred next to his mother, Maureen Elizabeth Cavlan Duffin.

Patrick’s parents, Phelim Brady Cavlan of Monoghan, Ireland, and Maureen, of Coalisland, immigrated from Ireland to America in 1958 with their first-born son Michael James, who was 1 year old. On September, 23, 1964, Patrick was born in Mt. View, California, the fourth of five brothers.

Pat and his family returned to Ireland in 1967, where he lived in Craigavon, Co. Armagh, attending school at Meadowbrook Primary School. He graduated from St. Anthony’s Middle School in 1975, and moved back to Mt. View with his family. He lived most of his life there, until moving to Port Alexander, Alaska, in 1993, and returning to Sitka in 2009 to stay. He had gone to Ireland a year ago to visit his father.

Patrick leaves his father, Phelim of Monaghan; brothers Michael James of St. Paul, Minnesota, Sean Andrew of Port Alexander, Brian Martin of Armagh, Ireland, and Phelim Brady of Belding, Michigan; and much extended family and many friends in Ireland and the United States.

“Patrick Cavlan is now at Home with the Lord, and lives on in our hearts and minds,” his family said.
