Services for Priscilla Stella Peele will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi.

Priscilla, a Sheldon Jackson graduate and a Sitka resident since the early 1970s, died May 31, 2015, at her home. She was 70.
She was born Oct. 27, 1944, in Metlakatla, the daughter of Thomas and Stella Atkinson. She attended Sheldon Jackson High School, and met Edward Peele in the school’s Allen Auditorium. She graduated from SJHS in 1962, and in 1969 she and Edward were reunited after he returned from Vietnam. They married in 1970.
The couple lived in Metlakatla and Hydaburg until he took a job with Alaska Airlines, and they made Sitka their home.
During her years in Sitka, Priscilla worked as a bartender and cook at the Nugget Restaurant; a waitress at the Sportland; and a counselor at Sitka Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, and ATS Treatment Center.
She was a dorm mother at Mt. Edgecumbe High School, and an ICWA case worker for Sitka Tribe of Alaska.
Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Stella Atkinson; her brother, Tom Atkinson Jr.; and her sister, Marion Hudson.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward Peele; her daughter Amanda Peele of Sitka; son Edward Peele Jr. of Sitka; her adopted children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters Patricia Beal and Mona Johnson; stepsisters Janet Soboleff and Sasha Soboleff; stepbrothers Ross Soboleff and Walter Soboleff Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
