Richard “Dick” Wilkin II
Richard “Dick” Wilkin II passed away on August 24, 2020, in Auburn, Washington. He was 87.
Dick was born February 19, 1933, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Richard Howard Wilkin Sr. and Ruby Clayton Wilkin. He was raised in Yakima and Spokane, Washington, with his older sister Virginia (Ginny).
He loved to travel, and when he was a teen he did a bike trip to tour the states with a buddy from Spokane that turned out to be quite an adventure. One of his travels brought him to Alaska where he met Ada Bruce in Sitka. They were married in Sitka in June 1957, where they lived and raised their children until 1986, when they moved to Pacific, Washington.
Dick was a Bureau of Indian Affairs security guard and shore boat operator on Mt. Edgecumbe in the 1960s, and later worked for Alaska Airlines in Sitka, and in Washington until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, big family gatherings, picnics on the islands around Sitka and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Ada Wilkin, mother Ruby Henke, father Richard Wilkin Sr., sister Virginia (Ginny) Holbrook, daughter-in-law Linda Wilkin, grandson Stephen Wilkin and great-great-grandson Urijah Lee.
Survivors include son Rick Wilkin, his children Corey, Nicole and Jamie all of Salmon Washington; daughter Bernadette Bruce, her children Charidy (Micah) McDaniels and Vicki Lee, all of Auburn, Washington; daughter Vicki Webb (Tom) of Portola, California, and her children Tommy of Ormand Beach, Florida, and Richard (Sabrina) of Sparks, Nevada; daughter Lori Stedman (Mike) and their children Jakob (Rachel) and Matt, all of Juneau; son Richard T. Wilkin III of Washington; daughter Lennette (Cookie) Harlin (Ron) and children Mary and Lisa, all of Kelso, Washington; son Arnold Wilkin, of Pacific, Washington and his child Tyler; daughter Ruby Delach and her children Christopher, Jess, Samantha and Anna, all of Washington; daughter Tammy Mears (Tim) and their children James of Sitka and Michael (Clarise) of Silverdale, Washington; and son Robert Wilkin (Doris) and their children Robert Jr. and Brenda all of Alaska.
Also surviving are niece Denise Daniels, her children Rick, and Gina of Washington, nephew Dale Schubach of Washington, and niece Val Paddock (Melvin) of Spokane, Washington and their children Daniel of Spokane and Monica Shriver of Sacramento, California; cousin Carol Griffith of Washington; 26 great- grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dick is greatly missed by his family and loved ones. Family members are very thankful for all the condolences and prayers that have been received from many family friends.
To honor Dick’s wishes no services will be held. However, due to COVID the family will have a private memorial to celebrate his life.
