Dear Editor: I wrote earlier this week to encourage Sitka to support local programs targeting food insecure households. Another program I’m supporting this holiday season is the SAFV Food Box program. SAFV is currently serving an average of 75 individuals each month. They have a streamlined process that makes sure no one is turned away and treat everyone with the utmost respect.
You can donate by check at the address below or drop off shelf-stable healthy food like aseptic packaged milks, canned beans, fruit in juice, soups, tuna, & vegetables, jerkey, nuts, lower sugar breakfast cereals, breakfast bars and the like. Please call the shelter at (907) 747-3370 to arrange a drop off time:
