Dear Editor: I’m glad to announce that as of 2 p.m. today Sitkans Against Family Violence (SAFV) raised $45,820 during our annual membership drive! Thank you so much, Sitka. We had a big ask and you stepped up to help support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in a big way.
These dollars will go towards providing food and shelter for Sitkans experiencing crisis and supporting programs that work to prevent violence in our community. Thank you to all our members, donors, and local business supporters for your generosity — we couldn’t do this work without you.
I know the future seems uncertain and at times discouraging, but I hope you see these dollars, as I do, as a defiant statement of hope — hope for the work that happens at SAFV and the world that we are working to build.
I view each of these $45,820 as a bid to see our world improve — 45,820 bids for kindness, 45,820 wishes for peace and safety. And sensing Sitka’s collective desire for healing and compassion makes me feel heartened. I feel buoyed to see that this community is invested (literally) in seeing people treat their family, loved ones, neighbors, and themselves with respect and kindness. Thank you, Sitka.
