Posted

Samuel “Sam” Hartley

Services for lifelong Sitka resident Samuel “Sam” Hartley will be held Thursday, August 19, at St. Gregory Catholic Church.

Mass will be at noon, following a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m.

Sam peacefully passed away on August 21, surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with lung cancer. He was 81.

He was born in Sitka on September 22, 1938, to Sam and Theresa Mary Hartley.

On December 28, 2008, he and Mercidita Mabalot were married in Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines.

He worked at SEARHC for 35 years and was awarded a certificate in recognition of his service to the U.S. Government.

Sam was passionate about gardening, carpentry, fishing and spoiling his pet dogs – especially Dutchess.

He was preceded in death by his brother William Hartley.

Survivors include his wife, Mercidita, and his brother Frank and wife Rose, all of Sitka.

Nephews and a niece also survive.
