Dear Editor: On behalf of Sitkans Against Family Violence, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to support SAFV during our Thanksgiving food drive this past Saturday. Your generosity helps to make the holiday season brighter for families and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in our community.
A special thank you goes to Hames Corporation and Sea Mart Quality Foods for hosting the drive, as well as donors such as ASEA City Employees Union and President Tom Climo of the local union, Sitka Work and Rugged Gear (who donated over $12,000 of winter clothes and gear for our residents!), White Elephant Shop, Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association, Sheet’ká Salmon Tales, Sitka Conservation Society, Sitka Ukulele Group, the Sitka Legacy Foundation (an affiliate of the Alaska Community Foundation), Sitka Seventh-day Adventist Church, St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, and the many individuals who donated food and Sea Mart gift cards. Thank you! Our shelter pantry is fully stocked for the holidays because of these generous organizations and individuals, and we are able to continue providing no-questions-asked food boxes to anyone in the community who needs one.
We are also grateful to everyone who has donated or otherwise supported our 45th Anniversary Membership Drive. Thanks to you, we are now over 70% of the way toward our goal to raise $50,000 by Dec. 2!
If you missed us on Saturday, you can still help support SAFV and put us over the top by going to www.safv.org/donate.
Thank you, Sitka! We appreciate your showing up over and over with so much kindness. With gratitude,
Emma Bruhl
SAFV Board Chair
