Sept. 20, 2021, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

September 17

At 5:05 a.m. a man was reported yelling and screaming and being erratic at Alaska Airlines. After police arrived he voluntarily agreed to go to a medical facility.

At 5:51 a.m. a caller at Naomi Kanosh Lane and Indian River Road reported hearing gunshots. Officers searched the area but found no source for the gunshots.

At 6:42 a.m. two men were reported passed out in the men’s restroom at Eliason Harbor. Officers found they were able to care for themselves, but trespassed them from the harbors.

A man reported to have implied he was suicidal was found to be just frustrated with his health care.

A man ran away when officers tried to serve a domestic violence order.

At 3:10 p.m. a rear-ender was reported on Jarvis Street. The drivers were given report forms.

At 3:40 p.m. a man was taken from a mental facility back to the airport.

At 7:26 p.m. it was reported dirt bike riders were racing from Lake Street toward 100 Lincoln Street.

At 11:11 p.m. a fight was reported at a bar, with one man pushing down an employee and another customer. Charges of assault in the fourth degree may be pending.

 

September 18

At 1:12 a.m. a Cascade Creek Road resident reported he didn’t have a gun so he had hit a bear with a shovel instead of shooting it. An officer gave him a verbal warning and advised him not to use garden tools against a bear.

At 7:41 a.m. a caller said someone had put fish heads in her garbage, in the 1800 block of SMC.

At 8:50 a.m. a caller said a store was not complying with the mask mandate.

A backpack found on a picnic table was found to contain a phone, prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia and money. All except some heroin were returned to the owner. Charges may be filed.

At 11:20 a.m. a man was reported to be refusing to leave the Raptor Center, and calling an employee a communist. He drove away before officers arrived. He was identified and trespassed from the center.

A downtown store reported a man had tried on a jacket and when he left the jacket he was wearing appeared to be bulky. Store video is to be reviewed.

A caller said three men went into a shooting range building and taken trap birds. Video tape was to be reviewed. The caller did not want to press charges.

September 19

A man said two shotguns had been taken from his vehicle during the night.

At 12:40 p.m. a bartender said a woman the previous night had been in knowing that she had tested positive for COVID. The bartender was told where to file a report.

At 4:34 p.m. a fishing boat skipper asked for help getting a deck hand to get off the boat. The deck hand was removed and was to fly to Ketchikan.

At 6:42 p.m. callers complained of loud music from Moller ball field and then of fireworks from the Swan Lake park. All was quiet by 9 p.m.

At 10:46 p.m. a warning about having a bear attractant was issued on Kiksadi Court.

 

Sitka Police

Oran McGraw Jr., 45, was charged Friday with violating conditions of release.

Erica Barragan, 35, was charged Friday with violating conditions of release.

Michael Albert, 18, was charged Friday with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Friday, five on Saturday and four on Sunday.
