Welcome Tea
Dear Editor: Recently the Coast Guard Spouses’ and Women’s Association held their annual Welcome Tea for spouses and active duty women in Sitka to come together to meet and greet and get to know one another as new spouses transition themselves and their families here to Sitka.
This is an exciting time for many but it can also be a scary time for some as well. Those of us who have been here for a little while know that given time most everyone will come to love Sitka for multiple reasons. This small island is unique in so many ways but the one that stands out to our group is the continual support the local business show us year after year. In a goal to promote shopping locally several business provided us with gift cards to hand out. We would like to offer our sincere thank you to these business for their ongoing support: Chocolate Moose, Common Grounds, Harry Race, Highliner, Homeport Eatery, Island Girl Coffee, and North Sister Crepes and Juice Co.

JKT
Dear Editor: The Primary is over and it’s time to look closely at the candidates. Starting here at home, in my book, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (JKT) is the man for the job to represent our Southeast district! He’s got the energy of the Energizer Bunny, treats all with respect, and works with folks on both sides of the aisle.
JKT votes to put Alaskans first on oil and gas issues. His opponent believes that support of SB21 is a “personal,” not a political, choice. That lines him up with DOCS Rules: it’s the DEATH OF COMMON SENSE that the multibillion-dollar tax cuts for oil companies is not a political issue. For the future of our gas pipeline, with oil prices at historic highs, we need a legislator who represents Alaska – not the oil companies.
Like the Independent, Bipartisan Walker/Mallott ticket, we need people to bridge the divide between the parties, and make Alaska work for Alaskans, not just the privileged few. JKT knows folks, talks to folks, meets folks, likes folks, and loves Alaska.
    Let’s keep him in Juneau!
