Murkowski Staff Visit
Dear Editor: I’m sorry I missed Thursday’s visit by folks from Senator Murkowski’s staff for two reasons.
First, I wanted to hear why they held their confab at the Post Office, of all places, and as opposed to just about anyplace else within walking or wheelchair distance from downtown.
And second, had I been there, I would have attempted to ask the following question:
When are Sen. Murkowski and the rest of the United States Congress and the current occupant of the White House going to confront and deal with:
1. This nation’s $23 trillion and growing national debt?
2. This nation’s current and projected-into-the-indefinite-future $1 trillion annual federal deficits?
3. The looming bankruptcy of Social Security and Medicare?
The so-called budget/debt ceiling limit deal made last month as Congress rushed off to summer vacation conveniently puts dealing with all this off until after the 2020 election; thereby guaranteeing that no politician – incumbent or candidate – will even have to address these issues in the run-up to next November.
That is very obvious from the total absence of even one question or comment about the debt, deficits, or that bankruptcy during the much-ballyhooed Democratic Party’s candidates debates. What are the chances that that is going to happen again during Thursday night’s debate?
If climate change and LGBT rights merit extensive, extended prime-time town hall discussion coverage, why then don’t the burgeoning debt, billowing deficits, and Ponzi-scheme entitlement programs?
America is on a collision course with reality.
And it would be very nice if the senior United States senator from Alaska (along with the rest of our Delegation) displayed at least a bit of awareness – let alone concern – about that fact. And then some Leadership in actually, really doing something about it.
It would also be very nice if the media did something to make the American peoples as aware of this situation as it does so well on so many other secondary, peripheral issues and the latest Tweetstorms out of Swampland.
